Heavy hors devours7/30/2023 These appetizers can be just as filling and flavorful as meat-based options, and they’re often healthier too. Lighter wines such as Pinot Grigio pair well with vegetable-heavy dishes while heavier reds like Cabernet Sauvignon complement richer flavors found in cheese-filled apps. Pairing these delicious bites is also an important consideration when serving them at events. Be sure to offer a variety of options that cater to different tastes while still providing enough substance to satisfy hunger cravings. When planning a menu that includes vegetarian heavy appetizers it’s important to consider your guests’ preferences and dietary needs. Other creative ideas include mini quiches filled with vegetables like broccoli or zucchini, crispy cauliflower bites coated in breadcrumbs or tempura batter. Some popular vegetarian heavy appetizer options include stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta topped with fresh tomatoes and basil, vegetable skewers marinated in herbs and spices, spinach artichoke dip served with pita chips or crostini breads. These appetizers can be just as filling and flavorful as their meat-based counterparts, with the added benefit of being healthier and more sustainable. For seafood lovers shrimp cocktail remains one of the most requested items at any party while crab cakes offer something more substantial.įor those who prefer vegetarian options stuffed mushrooms filled with cream cheese and herbs make an excellent choice as do bruschetta topped off with fresh tomatoes and basil leaves. Sliders are another popular choice for heavy appetizers these mini burgers can be customized with all sorts of toppings like bacon, avocado slices or caramelized onions. Another favorite is meatballs – whether they’re made with beef or chicken and served in a tangy sauce or on their own with toothpicks for easy snacking. One of the most beloved is undoubtedly the cheese board, which can feature an array of different cheeses alongside crackers, fruits, and nuts. If you’re looking for something more unique than traditional finger foods at your next event consider deep-fried bites like fried macaroni balls filled with gooey cheese sauce! Skewered items offer an easy-to-eat option that is perfect for outdoor events where guests may be standing around mingling rather than sitting down at tables. For those who prefer gluten-free options, there are plenty of choices like deviled eggs or grilled vegetables.Ĭold heavy appetizers include dips such as hummus or spinach artichoke dip served with pita chips while hot heavy appetizers range from mini quiches to buffalo chicken dip. Seafood lovers can indulge in shrimp cocktail or crab cakes while cheese enthusiasts can enjoy a variety of cheese boards with crackers and fruits. Vegetarian and vegan options are also widely available, such as stuffed mushrooms or roasted vegetable skewers. Some of the most popular options include meat-based dishes like sliders, chicken wings, and bacon-wrapped scallops. The importance of heavy appetizers lies in their ability to set the tone for any event by providing tasty snacks that satisfy hunger cravings without requiring a full meal commitment. By offering smaller portions of food that still pack in plenty of flavor and nutrition, hosts can save money on ingredients while still providing their guests with an enjoyable culinary experience. Serving heavy appetizers can help keep costs down compared to serving a full meal. This makes it easy to accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences without sacrificing flavor. With so many different types available – from meat-based options like sliders and skewers to vegetarian choices like stuffed mushrooms or bruschetta – there’s something for everyone. They also serve as a great conversation starter, allowing guests to mingle and socialize while enjoying delicious bites.Īnother important aspect of heavy appetizers is their versatility. Unlike light snacks such as chips or popcorn which can leave you feeling hungry again soon after eating them heavy appetizers provide enough sustenance so that guests can enjoy themselves without worrying about getting too hungry later on. The term “heavy” refers not only to the size of the dish but also its nutritional value. Heavy appetizers differ from traditional appetizers in that they tend to include more substantial ingredients like meats, cheeses, seafood or vegetables stuffed with hearty fillings. They are typically served at events like cocktail parties, weddings, and corporate gatherings where people will be mingling and socializing. Heavy appetizers are a type of finger food that is designed to be filling and satisfying, without requiring guests to sit down for a full meal.

Phoenix jones superhero7/30/2023 They say Phoenix is not as brave as he likes people to believe, that he's in it for personal gain, and that his presence on the streets only serves to escalate matters. The chief gossips have been N.Y.C.'s Dark Guardian and Seattle's Mr. Many of them, evidently jealous of Phoenix's stunning rise, have been spreading rumors. Ever since Phoenix appeared on CNN in January in a short segment extolling his acts of derring-do, the superhero community has been rife with grumbling. Why can't they have their hour at the bus stop? Plus, aren't we prodding a hornet's nest? Couldn't this be like the Taco Incident times a thousand? Haven't they got enough to deal with? They'll be gone by the time any daytime people wake up. Up close, these dealers and addicts look exhausted, burnt-out. The superhero chatter ceases, and the only sound is the squeak of my luggage wheels as I roll them down the street. "Will you touch my heart, save my life, and give me $9.40?" His parents live a two-hour bus ride away, in central Washington, and he's only $9.40 short for the fare home. "Crime doesn't care how I feel," he replies. A couple of my old injuries are flaring up, like some broken ribs. "The cut's still bleeding, internally and externally. Other than some junkies and drunks wandering around like zombies, the place is deserted. We head downtown and park in the business district, a bunch of empty office buildings in a nice part of Seattle. by the time we reach his very messy apartment, where he quickly changes into his full superhero costume: a black-and-gold rubber suit complete with stab plates and a pouch for his Taser and Mace. They're regular men with jobs and families and responsibilities who somehow have enough energy at the end of the day to journey into America's neediest neighborhoods to do what they can. Most undertake basically safe community work: helping the homeless, telling kids to stay off drugs, etc. There's New York City's Dark Guardian, who specializes in chasing pot dealers out of Washington Square Park by creeping up to them, shining a light in their eyes, and yelling, "This is a drug-free park!" And there are dozens and dozens more. There's RazorHawk, from Minneapolis, who was a pro wrestler for fifteen years before joining the RLSH movement. There's DC's Guardian, in Washington, who wears a full-body stars-and-stripes outfit and wanders the troubled areas behind the Capitol building. Phoenix didn't know this when he first donned the suit about a year ago, but he's one of around 200 real-life superheroes currently patrolling America's streets, looking for wrongs to right. We both look surprised: This big masked man, six feet one and 205 pounds, is barely out of boyhood. By the way, why do you name a pediatrician as your doctor?" "You're allowed to stay with your pediatrician until you're 22," Phoenix explains. It's very important that you go home and rest. "The good news is there's no serious damage," he says. "There's no point worrying about it," she says with a shrug.įinally the doctor arrives with the test results. "A few hours ago I went to use the bathroom and I started peeing blood," he says. That attack had burst a hole right through Phoenix's skin. Unfortunately the head of the bat landed exactly where he'd been punched a week earlier by another bar brawler holding a car key in his fist. "I ran across the street, and he jabbed me in the stomach," he says, pointing at a spot just below his belly button. A few hours ago, they were patrolling when they saw a guy swinging a baseball bat at another guy outside a bar. Love sick meaning7/30/2023 Sadly, some individuals are developmentally and/or defensively handicapped in one or more value dimensions. It favors the discovery of true love beyond the “fog” of falling in love, while avoiding the cul-de-sac of lovesickness. Definition of lovesick as in loving unhappy because of love feeling weak, foolish, or unhappy because someone you love does not love you The movie is a comedy about a lovesick teenager. It helps avoid narcissism and the tendency to devalue persons as things. This is especially true of the Feeler (F) dimension which enables perception of the individuality and uniqueness of others, including ourselves. Invoking an “optical metaphor,” individuals vary in degrees of “value-acuity,” “value-astigmatism,” and “value-blindness.” Drawing upon an “audio metaphor,” we can say that true love depends on getting the “pitch,” “tone,” and “harmony” of our value dimensions right. This assessment of how we organize and use core values is employed by some psychologists and many business consultants. Its descriptive and predictive powers are proven in the pages of The New Science of Axiological Psychology. Can’t land a plane. One’s general capacity to value can be measured with the “rubber ruler” of valuemetrics. See, on the shoar inhabits purple spring, Where nightingales their lovesick ditty sing. Sturgeon fish7/30/2023 The effort, she said, was led primarily by the tribes in the region. The last part of Langston’s talk charted the conservation efforts in the last 20 years to restore the Great Lakes’ sturgeon population. “Any one of these things and sturgeon could be resilient against them, but when they all happen one after another, both the sturgeon and Indigenous peoples found themselves with a problem,” Langston said. Sturgeon were soon on the verge of extinction. The myriad dams erected to provide power for the mills obstructed sturgeon migration. In the early 20th century, newly built paper mills dumped pollutants into the water where sturgeon swam. Soon, the Great Lakes produced much of the world’s caviar. In the 1880s, entrepreneurs realized they could sell sturgeon roe as caviar. When steamships came along, fisherman piled sturgeon on the shores of rivers and lakes and dried them, burning them for logs for ship fuel. Meanwhile, the whites pushed the Native American tribes off their land, enabling further habitat destruction. “And so commercial fishermen just slaughtered them,” Langston said. Since sturgeon ripped through commercial fishing nets, fishermen soon viewed the sturgeon as pests. Very soon though, the commercial fishing industry arrived and targeted herring and lake trout instead. Initially, the European settlers who pushed westward in the 1800s traded with the Native Americans for dried sturgeon to eat. They were “scholars, professors, lawyers and mediators,” Langston said, involved in ensuring good governance. The Ojibwe, who now live in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and Ontario, Canada, named one of the clans the Sturgeon clan. The Indigenous peoples who inhabited the Great Lakes region moved around with the fish, which were a major food source.Īccording to Langston, sturgeon were so plentiful that the Potawatomi and Ojibwe tribes’ legends “tell of rivers so full of sturgeon that a person could walk across the water on the backs of the fish.” Lake sturgeon migrate back to their birthplace to spawn. They have sucker-like mouths with fleshy lips - “little Dyson vacuum cleaners that have evolved to go sucking up the crustaceans and mollusks and crabs, and then they just kind of swallow them,” Langston said. Lake sturgeon typically grow seven to eight feet, weigh as much as 300 pounds and live up to 150 years. Roughly 150 million years ago, they settled into their current size, shape and physiology and haven’t changed their form much since. Their direct ancestors survived the Great Permian Extinction that killed nine out of every 10 species and soon became the dominant, big fish in every major river system in North America and Eurasia. Sturgeon evolved long before the dinosaurs. “They have some serious history,” said Langston, the Distinguished Professor of Environmental History at Michigan Technological University. Not bad for a fish mostly known for producing the eggs eaten as caviar.

Late blight disease cycle7/30/2023 Early blight symptoms are more circular, larger and darker than late blight marking and have a definite concentric ( zonate) margins. Late blight is sometimes confused with early blight ( Alternaria solani). Late blight symptoms can be mistaken for several other diseases. Infected potato tubers exhibit wet and dry rots. In moist weather, a white downy fungal growth may appear on the affected fruit-rot surface. On tomato fruit, grey green watery spots can develop on the upper half of the fruit, which later spread and turn greasy brown and bumpy. Note scorched appearance of leaves, stems and fruits. Stems can also develop elongated, greyish watery brown lesions. In dry weather, affected foliar parts may appear dry and shrivelled. In moist conditions, a downy white greyish mould usually develops near the margin of leaf spots on the underside of leaves. The spots may enlarge rapidly until entire leaflets are killed. Leaf spot margins often are pale green or water-soaked. On leaves, pale green to brown spots, sometimes with a purplish tinge, appear on the upper surface of leaves. In potatoes, tubers can also be infected. Late blight symptoms can develop on leaves, stems, branches, and in case of tomatoes on both green and ripe fruits. When conditions favour development of late blight and there are no steps taken to suppress the disease, it can completely destroy the above-ground parts of plants (stems, leaves, tomato fruits) and can also affect potato tubers. It is known as the most devastating disease of potatoes. Late blight of potatoes or tomatoes can be devastating with dramatic and disastrous economic consequences. Late blight is a fungal disease that can affect many vegetables of the Solanum species, mainly potatoes and tomatoes, but also eggplants.

Jiffy lube 787457/30/2023 “Maximum impact force” is the amount of strain a rope places on your protection in a fall. Of less importance but still relevant, some skinny ropes have maximum impact forces that are on the high side for single ropes. If you tip the scales more than the test weight, the rope could hold fewer than five falls. In short, the skinny ropes have less safety redundancy built into them, a consideration for all climbers, but especially germane for folks heavier than 176 pounds, the weight used for the CE drop-test. Mind you, super-light ropes aren’t unsafe-all of them are CE certified and meet all rope standards including surviving the minimum of five CE test falls for single ropes, but most barely eek by. The weight savings are dramatic-no other single piece of gear can shed as much poundage in one fell swoop. What’s more, the thin ropes snake across the rock and through carabiners with less friction, saving you additional realized weight by reducing rope drag. Pretty slick, eh?ĭespite the weight savings offered by the new ropes, they “Aren’t for everybody,” says Scott Newell of Blue Water Ropes. It’s triple rated as a single, half and twin rope and at 48 grams per meter, it’s the first to break the mythical weight barrier of 50 grams per meter. Compared to standard 10mm cords, the thin lines can trim two to three pounds off 60-meters of rope. At present the 8.5mm Beal Opera holds the title for the lightest and skinniest single rope. Underscoring the question is a new generation of super-thin, super-light ropes. Steve McClure on-sighting Super Duper Goo, (5.13b), Blue Mountains, Australia. For sure, no one should climb with one gram more than necessary, but can you go too far? Is there a point where light weight becomes way too light? In rope he trusts. When we aren’t climbing, we’re obsessing over weight, carefully scrutinizing every morsel we pop into our gulletts, slap on our racks or stuff into our sacks. Defeating gravity by getting lighter, both in terms of ourselves and our gear, is in fact one of our favorite pastimes. You don’t have to have an apple konk you on the head to realize that as climbers our greatest enemy is gravity, and that gravity’s minion is weight. |
